Everyone can be great, because everyone can serve

Good volunteers and staff focus on the mission and the needs of Habitat families while creating an environment that fosters growth and regeneration of human and material resources. Some volunteer opportunities may require that you complete a volunteer release form.  For more information, please see the Code of Coduct and Release Form.

Group Construction
Working with your group in a Habitat setting is a great way to build camaraderie. All skill levels welcome! While priority scheduling goes to the underwriters of the home, other groups are scheduled as space allows. We also have occasional non-construction projects for groups, including groups with youth too young to build. Sign up here.

Individual Construction
Volunteers participate in construction generally Tuesday-Saturday, and no experience is necessary. You can get involved on a regular basis and become a volunteer leader or get involved as your schedule allows.  Sign up here.

Build Site Age Restrictions:
Under 14 years of age: not allowed on site during any phase of construction
14- 15 years old: allowed to participate in landscaping; must have one adult supervisor over 21 per youth
16- 17 years old: allowed to participate in construction, but cannot get on the roof or operate power tools; must have one adult supervisor over 21 per 5 youth.

Special Projects/Committees
Throughout the year, Dallas Area Habitat requires the help of skilled volunteers to work on non-construction projects. Special projects and committees are great for those who have a special skill they can share. Some examples are photography, event planning, creative writing, public speaking, and salvage/deconstruction abilities. Sign up here.

ReStore
Our ReStores, open seven days a week in Dallas and Garland, provide a great volunteer opportunity for those who would like to be up and moving but not outdoors. The ReStore is a retail home improvement outlet store that stocks gently used home decorating and improvement products at discounts of 50-75% off retail prices and volunteers assist with all aspects of retail operations, with the exception of check out. The ReStores are also the locations where community service restitution hours can be completed. All volunteers must be at least 18. Sign up here.

Administrative
While Habitat is most well known for volunteer-built homes, volunteers in the office play just as important a role. For those who would prefer an office environment, we need your help! Administrative volunteer opportunities can range from stuffing envelopes and database entry to specialized projects and restocking first aid kits. The offices offer flexible scheduling opportunities generally Tuesday-Saturday. Sign up here.

AmeriCorps
Habitat National Service provides an opportunity for philanthropic individuals to serve at local Habitat affiliates with AmeriCorps National and AmeriCorps Volunteers in Service to America, or VISTA, programs. Individuals are given the opportunity to do direct or indirect service for up to one year in order to build affiliate capacity, engage communities, increase and lead volunteers and build and renovate homes in partnership with low-income families in need of safe and decent housing. These opportunities generally begin in mid- to late August, with recruitment beginning as early as April here.
