About The Dawson Family
The Dawson women are a strong and beautiful mother-daughter pair that have overcome many challenges in a positive and loving way. Mashell (40), is a customer service representative for Bank of America but finds her heart is really with her daughter and church. Originally from Texarkana, Texas, Mashell volunteers her time teaching Sunday school to teenagers, 14-19 years old. A self-professed “shy person,” Mashell warms up quickly, especially when it comes to helping children and bragging about her daughter, Shatora.

Shatora is an outgoing 14 year old young lady who is both athletic and artistic. She has a love for classical dancing but also enjoys playing volleyball and basketball. Her best subject in school is math but she also likes to write poetry. Shatora loves her Mom and says she is “very special.”

Since her divorce, Mashell has prided herself in creating a stable home for Shatora. She strives for consistencies in their lives, such as school and church since they have moved 4 times in recent years. The rent she is currently paying for a townhome is so expensive that they have trouble paying other essential bills. This home for Mashell is a chance to settle down and have some peace of mind, while also reducing her living expenses. She says, “This home will break the cycle of just having a place to stay and turn it into a home.”
