Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity joined forces with Habitat for Humanity International to create VetCorps; a nationwide initiative to serve the needs of Veterans. In August 2011, Habitat for Humanity began the program that salutes our veterans by providing homeownership possibilities, as well as volunteer opportunities to veterans. Our goal is to recruit veterans as partner family homeowners, identifying and enlisting veterans as volunteers as well as to build sustainable partnerships with non-profit organizations, ensuring a continuum of care for veterans. VetCorps and Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity:
VetCorps uses a proven “peer to peer” methodology to provide special services to veterans who may suffer from the trauma of military service or transitioning from military to civilian life. VISTA VetCorps understands that to ensure veterans in the future, we must serve the needs of our current veterans now. For more information on how you can qualify for a home or become involved in service to veterans, please contact our VetCorps coordinator Neal Pointer (214) 678-2313. Our very own VetCorps have been recognized for their efforts by the Allies in Service organization. They have been featured in the first Allies in Service newsletter. |
