Dallas Area Habitat For Humanity

The Dallas Area Habitat for Humanity volunteer experience is like no other. It is a tangible result with immediate impact. Volunteers founded Dallas Habitat in 1986 and to this day remain an integral part of our operation and success. Our volunteer program is vast, offering many opportunities for many skill sets and a variety of groups including:

Volunteer Opportunities

Swing a hammer and transform lives! You can lend a hand building a home for a family or help us give a loved home a fresh coat of paint with our A Brush With Kindness program. Or maybe you would like to learn a thing or two in our state-of-the-art wall shop as we build the pieces and framework for someone’s first bedroom!

If building is not for you or your group, you may wish to consider one of our “non-build” activities or volunteer in our ReStore.

Give back. Change a life, and build hope today–the possibilities are endless!

It takes individuals, leaders, and groups like you, who are willing to give a day, a month, or several days a year to help turn a truck load of construction materials into a new home for a deserving family. Building a home alongside other volunteers and partner families is a great way to be part of something bigger. Opportunities are available at the construction site and in our state-of-the-art wall shop. Availability is limited and priority is given to volunteers linked with a sponsor group.

Volunteers generally participate in construction Wednesday through Saturday, and no construction experience is necessary.  You can get involved on a regular basis and become a Core Volunteer or get involved as your schedule allows.

While Dallas Habitat is most well known for volunteer-built homes, non-construction volunteers play just as important a role. We offer many opportunities for volunteers with various skill sets to assist the different departments within Dallas Habitat—from administrative support, photography, and design, to event production—our volunteers make our mission possible.

The ReStore is a retail outlet store that stocks gently used home decorating and home improvement products at discounts of 50 to 75% off retail prices. ReStore volunteers work alongside staff to create a friendly environment for our customers and support the operations of the store such as inventory, merchandising, and sales. We have 4 ReStores that are open 7 days a week, giving the most flexible options for volunteers to donate their time.

Build Bigger!

Core Program

Make lifelong friends, strengthen a skill set or learn something new—our Core Program is a perfect opportunity for leaders looking to become more involved in their community and give back regularly.

A Habitat Core Volunteer is literally just that, the “core” that keeps everything in tact. You can become part of our “Core” for any of our volunteer opportunities:

• Construction
• ReStore
• Non-Construction

You will have the opportunity to enhance your construction knowledge, learn new skills, meet new people, and develop leadership skills. To be a Core Volunteer, you must be able to commit to one day a month (or more if you desire) to your volunteer position.
