Habitat for Humanity International
Each local Habitat affiliate operates as an independent nonprofit organization, and in partnership with Habitat for Humanity International. Habitat for Humanity International was founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller. Like its local affiliates, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat invites people from all faiths and walks of life to work together in partnership, building homes with families in need.
With over 1.5 billion people, one-fourth of the total population, living on less than $2 a day, in substandard housing, the need can seem overwhelming.
Habitat for Humanity International is building more than 60,000 homes each year internationally, and has provided housing solutions to over 1.5 million families. With the average cost to build a home internationally being $4,500, commitments from the faith-based community have been able to transform slums into visible reminders of faith, hope, and love.
